Accommodation: K’s House Mount Fuji

One of the trickiest things booking somewhere to stay in a far away place is knowing whether the accommodation, hotel/hostel etc., is going to suit your needs. Reviews are always useful and so I thought I’d record my thoughts on the place I have stayed in Japan. First off is my most recommended place that I have stayed in… K’s House Mount Fuji in Kawaguchikomachi.

Location

K’s house Mt Fuji is located between Kawaguchi-ko station and Kawaguchi-ko itself. It takes around 10-15 minutes to walk from the station to the hostel, and around 10 minutes to get to the lake side, and 5 minutes to the nearest supermarket or conbini.

Access

It is getting easier to get to Kawaugchi-ko, from Tokyo you can either take the highway bus, shinkansen to Odawara and then the local train, or can get here from Hachioji on the Chuo line and then the Fujikyu railway.

Rooms

K’s House offers either hostel accommodation or private accommodation. The hostel consists of shared rooms with bunk beds and the use of shared bathrooms and showers. With the private rooms you can either have en-suite, Japanese style or Western style. I have only even stayed in the Japanese style en-suite and it is very spacious and comfortable. Some even have a balcony which is lovely in the summer heat.

The Japanese style rooms come with futon in the cupboard, if you have any allergies you can ask to have the feather bedding removed. There are instructions of how to set up the futon, it is really fun having this Japanese experience.

Along with rooms you also have access to shared living spaces, dining rooms and a kitchen. The kitchen is very well set up so that multiple people can be cooking all at the same time, it is a great place to meet new people and a good way to experience a little bit of life in Japan.

Price

The price here is one of the best things as rooms are really reasonable. Hostel rooms start at 2,500Y per night and private rooms from 3,000Y for 6 sharing, or 5,400Y for one person although en-suite rooms will set you back a little extra.

Staff

I have never met more welcoming or helpful people than I have whilst staying at differnet K’s houses. I first stayed at this location in 2013 and booked again for 2017. The staff will help you out with anything, translations, booking tours or even just having a chat after a long day. They will bend over backwards to help you!

Overall

Well there is a reason I re-booked to stay at this place after my first trip, even though I have stayed in very expensive places in Japan and elsewhere this place feels a bit like home. 5 star for sure!
